CanSkate Program
CanSkate is the official Skate Canada learn to skate program, preparing skaters of all ages for figure skating, hockey, speed skating, and ringette. Each block will offer all levels of CanSkate training, from first-timers to those ready to graduate to other programs. Skaters who commit to more blocks will see the quickest improvement in skating skills.
FOR THE 2024-25 season We are offering three groups of CanSkate.
- Pre-Canskate for new skaters aged 3-5 years. This program will focus on fun, and making skaters comfortable on the ice. Lots of games and activities and a low coach to skater ratio.
- CanSkate for skaters aged 5+ or who have completed Stage 1 in the Pre-CanSkate program. This program will introduce more advanced skills, and prepare skaters for other ice sports in the future.
- Pre-Power is the ideal program for those who have passed CanSkate badge 2 but are not yet ready for the PowerSkate program. This is not a learn to skate program. It is geared towards young skaters ages 4-7 interested in hockey or ringette. This program helps develop basic skating abilities in a power skating-specific environment, including balance skills, forward and backward skating, stopping, turning and agility skills. Skaters must wear full equipment (including sticks).
Coaches and program assistants will organize the skaters into groups based on skill levels and age. As skaters progress, they may be moved into different groups. If you have any questions, email mjsc@live.ca.
